On the IITian as a friend

The following are the result of a study which ran into months, and briefly outlines a few defining characteristics of the IITian as a friend (to, clearly, a non-IITian):

1. His emotional intelligence rivals that of a gorilla. At the other extreme, he also has a tendency to try and mathematically solve emotional problems. I mean, we've all heard of intelligent IITians; whoever has heard of a wise one?

2. At the end of the day, regardless of how humorous, intelligent and understanding you are, you will be viewed as a member of that unfamiliar tribe: the female. As a result, he will either be nervous or he will be 'interested'. The blessed middle path is not viewed as an option.

3. The above two reasons ensure that he is almost never going to really understand you.

4. This characteristic really distinguishes him from the others though. At the end of the day, he is, unfortunately, an achiever. You'd like to be one too, but you know, there are times when you'd label yourself as a lazy good-for-nothing. And normal friends: you can show them that side of you too, and they'll understand and let it be. With an IITian around, its kinda pointless to moan about how useless you are: he is convinced of that already.

5. He is so full of it. I mean, there are intelligent, creative and motivated people who do mange to scrape through heaven's door ... even by bypassing the road through IIT.

P.S. The reader is encouraged to not take this too personally. And if you do, then please remember that I do not allow profanities on my blog. :D
