Urban Madness

Have you ever laid down,
In a field of green,
Felt the sprightly blades tickle your neck,
Stared dreamily with the floating clouds
In the bluest sky.
And felt yourself float away,
To a place where your soul wanders
and your eyes are never shut.
Where even as you drowse,
your imagination soars
and your senses quiver with each soft breeze.
Where everything fills you up,
where you fill up everything.
Where you are one with the world.

And then you return to urban madness.
Trapped in a lattice of cars,
Hurrying to their destinations.
Each honking, quivering with impatience,
Each spewing out its grey anger,
Making you wish that you could hold in your breath a bit longer.
Where the sheer mass of people make you feel alone,
Where the air seems saturated
with confused thoughts chasing each other.
And even home doesn't offer solace,
For how can a wall of concrete,
protect you from its kin?
Where you strain out of the window
for one moment of golden blessing,
Or for one sweet note of an unfinished melody.
It's hard returning to urban madness,
Where you shrink from the world,
Instead of spreading yourself in it.
